Met Police Recruitment and Retention - Statement by Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority

90/02
10 September 2002

The MPA is fully committed to ensuring the Met reflects the diversity of London’s many communities through proactive and imaginative recruitment initiatives.

We recently set up the Recruitment Taskforce to consider radical proposals of how to increase the number of black, ethnic minority and female police officers.

The idea of one all-black intake to Hendon Training School each year is just one of the ideas our group has come up with. It is for the MPA to discuss and analyse the implications of all such proposals, including feedback from recruits themselves.
