Proud association with Pride 2005

The Metropolitan Police Authority sends a warm welcome to everyone celebrating at Pride 2005 on Saturday 2 July.

Kirsten Hearn, Chair of the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board said:

“The MPA's job is to increase community confidence and trust in London’s police. We are working hard to make the MPS reflect London’s multi-culturally diverse population and as an out lesbian I am very aware that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities in the capital are an important part of this diversity.

“We are delighted to see MPS officers in uniform again this year with other members of the Gay Police Association. We value the contribution officers and staff from London’s diverse communities can make from within the organisation by changing attitudes and informing policy. We aim to lead by example treating and valuing our employees, along with London’s population, with the respect and dignity we all deserve.”

John Roberts, Deputy Chair of the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board added:

“Our overall aim is for London to be a safe place for everyone to live, work and socialise and we will work together to achieve this.

“As an out gay man I recognise how important it is to continue the Authority’s work to raise greater awareness and sensitivity within the police service of issues specific to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people.

“But today we have a clear message to everyone attending the events – Enjoy Pride 2005!”
