Statement by Len Duvall Chair of the MPA: bonuses for ACPO officers

18/06
19 March 2006

The MPA Remuneration Sub-Committee of 16 March 06 discussed a paper which outlined criteria in a nationally agreed scheme under PNB (Police Negotiating Board) guidelines for bonuses for ACPO officers.

Len Duvall, chair of the MPA, said: "The MPA and many MPS ACPO officers did not accept this nationally negotiated bonus scheme was appropriate for the MPS.

Sir Ian Blair made it clear several months ago that he would neither seek nor accept a bonus this year."

However at this meeting a process had to be agreed by members of the committee which adhered to the framework of the ACPO agreement.

No recommendations were made which related to specific individuals but like all police chiefs the Commissioner is eligible for consideration under this nationally agreed scheme although this will not take place in the MPA until June 2006.

All MPA meetings are open to press and public except where issues relate to remuneration or security and therefore this particular committee paper was not discussed in public forum.
