Metropolitan Police Authority – May meeting

30/06
23 May 2006

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) will be held in meeting room 1 (ground floor), 10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1 on Thursday 25 May 2006 at 10.00 a.m.

The Authority will be updated on the developments in London’s 32 Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships during 2005, and discuss future arrangements for borough-level partnership working.

Len Duvall, Chair of the MPA, said:

“The MPA is a statutory partner in London’s 32 Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs) and we need to review the major activities and developments in the past year, such as the London-wide roll out of Safer Neighbourhoods. This has been well received by CDRPs with many examples of multi-agency use and integration across London. The MPA has continued to contribute to CDRPs by way of the MPA Partnership Fund, community engagement, sharing good practice and monitoring progress against recommendations set out in the MPA’s CDRP scrutiny report 2003.

“As Chair of the Authority I meet with CDRPs on my borough visits. This has proved very useful in giving boroughs the opportunity to discuss particular issues with the MPA, including hate crime, community engagement and general performance matters.

“We also need to look at how continued MPA involvement in CDRPs should be delivered and hear the views of link members on future arrangements for borough-level partnership working.”

Other subjects to be discussed by the Authority at the meeting include:

  • MPS involvement in Local Area Agreements;
  • strategic assessment of future pattern of training accommodation; and
  • central London Training Delivery Centre.

Commissioner Sir Ian Blair will give an update on operational policing issues in London and present a written performance report.

The Authority will hear two questions from:

  • Mr. David Mery, member of the public in relation to MPS reaction to events of 7/7; and
  • Mr. Tony Arbour, MPA member in relation to electoral fraud.

Catherine Crawford, Chief Executive and Clerk to the MPA will give the Authority’s responses at the meeting.
