News feeds
What are news feeds?
News feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content without having to visit the site. www.mpa.gov.uk now provides news feeds for some areas
of our website.
mpa.gov.uk uses a type of feed called RSS which stands for Really Simple Syndication. Users can view RSS feeds using a news reader.
How do I use a news reader?
A news reader is a piece of software that checks the news feeds you have subscribed to and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different news readers, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are applications downloaded to your computer.
Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer in the same way that you can access email using a web-based service like hotmail.
Downloadable applications let you store the news feed on your main computer, in the same way that you download your e-mail using Outlook.
How do I get a news reader?
There are a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time.
Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.

How do I receive content?
Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide which news feeds you want it to receive. For example, if you would like the latest MPA press releases,
simply visit the News section, or if you would like the latest MPA committee papers, visit the Committee section. All the sections of the MPA website that have feeds are listed [at the end of this
page].
You will notice an orange button.
This is the RSS button.
If you click on the RSS button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader. Most sites that offer feeds use a similar orange button, but some may just have a normal web link.
