9 November 2010
9:30am - 3:30pm
10 Dean Farrar Street, London SW1H 0NY
Meeting
The MPA is holding a Consultation Event for representatives of Community and Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) and Safer Neighbourhood Panels on 9 November 2010 from 09:30am until 15:30pm at the Metropolitan Police Authority, 10 Dean Farrar Street London SW1H 0NY.
Your input is of great importance as these are issues that will affect communities and the way we work across London. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, however we will aim to get representation from across the 32 London boroughs. The closing date for registration is 28 October 2010. Please register your attendance at http://surveys.mpa.gov.uk/v.asp?i=27168vuyxt or alternatively call 020 7202 0114.
In the morning attendees will have the opportunity to contribute their views to:
Safer Neighbourhoods scrutiny
This autumn the MPA are undertaking a Safer Neighbourhoods scrutiny. This scrutiny is focusing on the Safer Neighbourhoods team structure. For the purposes of this scrutiny, we are defining structure to mean the current ward based model for Safer Neighbourhoods teams and the Police Community Support Officer and Police Officer allocation to this ward based model. The MPA regularly seeks to involve Community Police Engagement Groups and Safer Neighbourhoods Panels (via the MPS) in scrutinies and investigations. The consultation event, on 9 November 2010, will be a useful opportunity for community police engagement volunteers and Safer Neighbourhood Panel representatives to inform the Safer Neighbourhoods scrutiny.
Equality Standard for the Police Service (ESPS)
There will be an opportunity to assist with assessing the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) performance against the Equality Standard for the Police Service (ESPS); the ESPS is a set of performance indicators that help the police monitor and evaluate their work around equality and diversity.

The afternoon will focus on:
Community and Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) Ensuring Influence; Delivering Value for Money – the future.
The MPA has been conducting a value for money study of CPEGs across London. The preliminary findings of the review were presented at the Community Engagement and Citizen Focus (CECF) Sub-committee on the 4 October 2010. The review has identified a number of areas for further consideration and analysis, which will inform the work going forward. This will include gathering more survey data to gain a broader view of CPEGs, further research into identifiable CPEG outcomes, continued work utilising borough demographic profiles to identify and address the gaps in representation and engagement and some further benchmarking of costs against other voluntary and community sector organisations. A further report will then be considered at the next meeting of CECF sub-committee on 13 December 2010. The consultation event, on 9 November 2010, will provide an opportunity for CPEGs to consider the relevant issues in more detail and feedback any views and concerns.
