Summary

This report proposes appointment of the co-opted members for the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Board and the Consultation Committee for 2003/04.

A. Recommendation

That the Authority appoints the co-opted membership of the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Board as set out in this report, and of the Consultation Committee, which will be reported orally at the meeting.

B. Supporting information

1. The Authority is responsible for making appointments of co-opted members for 2003/04, on recommendation from the relevant committee (Standing Order 1.8.1). The two committees which have co-opted members are the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Board and the Consultation Committee.

2. At its meeting on 1 May 2003, the Equal Opportunities & Diversity Board proposed the following co-opted members:

  • Lee Jasper (Policy Director for Equalities, Mayor’s Office) (Board agreed Rosemary Emodi as a named deputy).
  • Alison Fenney (Refugee Council)
  • Jason Lever (NSPCC)
  • Martin Meredith (Commission for Racial Equality)
  • Reverend Stephen Penrose (nominated in a personal capacity relating to his work with the LGBT community)

3. The Consultation Committee will be meeting on 25 June 2003 when its co-opted membership will be considered. These nominations will be reported orally to the Authority.

C. Equality and diversity implications

The appointment of co-opted members to these committees enables them include representation from a range of groups including those under-represented amongst the membership of the Authority.
