Process for dealing with community questions
Report: 4
Date: 24 April 2001
By: Clerk
Summary
This Report is presented to inform Members of the implications of the process for dealing with Community Questions.
A. Recommendations
- That members note the process proposed in Appendix 1.
- That members approve the proposals outlined in paragraph 2 that copies of the draft process are sent to consultative groups and publicised on the MPA website for public information.
B. Supporting information
1. The CDO Committee's public format for all its meetings actively encourages public participation and public questions. The time has come to review the format of the meetings. Experience has indicated that taking questions at the beginning of the meeting can be frustrating for members of the public and is not necessarily constructive. As an experiment this meeting is inviting audience participation at the conclusion of the formal business. Appendix 1 proposes a process to be piloted for the next four committee meetings after which time it will be reviewed, and further changes proposed to ensure that the process remains responsive to the needs of the community.
It is important that members of the public are made aware of the draft process proposed, and it is suggested that, in addition to this inclusion in the committee papers that a copy of the draft process be sent to all consultative groups so that it can be made available to members of the public. Additionally, the process can be publicised on the MPA website.
C. Financial implications
There are no additional financial implications to this report.
D. Background papers
None.
