Summary

A. Recommendation

That approval be given to the attendance of Cindy Butts at the Home Office Holly Royde Conference in April.

B. Supporting information

1. In May 2001 the Committee approved a process for agreeing Members' attendance at conferences on behalf of the MPA. As part of this process, the Committee's approval is required if the cost of the conference, including travel and accommodation expenses, exceeds £500 per delegate.

2. The Home Office Holly Royde conference is to be held at Binfield, Berkshire on 16-18 April 2002. It will address race, community relations and policing with particular focus on the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2002. This is clearly a conference that is very relevant to the MPA and it is proposed Cindy Butts attends as the MPA representative

3. The Committee's agreement is sought as the cost exceeds the £500 threshold. The cost, exclusive of travel expenses should not exceed £900. Travel and accommodation costs will be a further £200.

C. Financial implications

4. The cost can be met from MPA budget for 2002/03.

D. Background papers

None.
