Statement of condolence

63/01
11 September 2001

Flowers at the US EmbassyThe Metropolitan Police Authority wishes to express its deepest sympathy and condolences to all those people who have lost relatives and friends in the terrorist outrages in New York, Washington and other parts of the United States today.

Our thoughts are also with the police officers and the other emergency services in the United States who have worked tirelessly to help those affected by these evil acts, putting their own lives at risk as they attempted to evacuate survivors.

We will also support fully any steps necessary to be taken by the Metropolitan Police in providing extra security for London and its people.

All free cities are at risk, and we implore Londoners to assist the police in keeping our city safe by remaining ever vigilant.
