MPA endorses Muslim safety forum

111/02
30 October 2002

The Muslim Safety Forum was launched today Wednesday 30 October 2002 at the London Central Mosque. The ceremony was attended by Abdal Ullah, Independent Member of the MPA, representatives of prominent Muslim organisations and Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Ian Blair, as well as Met officers from every London Borough.

Abdal Ullah, Independent Member of the MPA said:

“The MPA wholeheartedly endorses the launch of Muslim Safety Forum. It is an important step towards ensuring that London becomes a safer city for all our communities.

“The success of the Forum will be achieved by all the authorities concerned working together and distributing advice and guidance to our Muslim communities.“

The aim of the Muslim Safety Forum is to make available to Muslim Communities a co-ordinated advice service on security and safety issues. It will work together with existing British Muslim organisations, police and other relevant authorities to ensure that information and guidance disseminated to Muslim communities is uniform and has maximum impact. Another function will be to highlight community concerns to relevant agencies and advise on Muslim issues.

The Forum grew from regular meetings at New Scotland Yard held by prominent Muslim organisations and committed individuals who came together to discuss community safety issues.
