Summary

At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the Sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks.

1. At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the Sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks. This report provides members with details of the key items considered at the following meetings:

  • Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-committee (4 October 2010)
  • Equality and Diversity Sub-committee (21 October 2010)

Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-committee

2. A review of CPEGs was received in order to ensure value for money and effectiveness. It was resolved that further work be conducted and another report be received in December.

3. Stop and Search monitoring issues were discussed. It was resolved to examine options for standardising protocols and establishing best practice for the community observer’ scheme across London. It was also requested that monitoring data provided to the Sub-committee be reconfigured to be more accessible.

Equality and Diversity Sub-committee

4. A report was received on the MPS response to individuals with Mental Health issues. The report included details of the progress made supporting those with mental health issues including the appointment of mental health liaison officers in all London Boroughs, the development of police training programmes and partnership working with Mental Health Trusts.

5. A second report was received on MPS Service Delivery to Deaf and Disabled People, detailing the service improvement programme and community consultation being carried out to improve service accessibility.

6. The Sub-committee’s Annual Report was presented, detailing the structure and objectives of the Sub-committee, along with an overview of reports received and actions taken in 2009-10.

7. The Sub-committee was well attended with over 15 community guests, who were able to engage and contribute to the discussions on the reports.

1. Equalities and diversity are key issues for the Authority and considerations of such matters are central to the work of this committee and its Sub-committees. As such, matters of equality and diversity are given full consideration in relation to the matters discussed at each meeting.
