Summary

At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks.

B. Supporting information

1. At each meeting of the committee members receive a report from the sub-committees and related forums that have met in recent weeks. This report provides members with details of the key items considered at the following meetings:

  • Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-Committee -11 April 2011
  • Equality and Diversity Sub-Committee -14 April 2011
  • Human Resources and Remuneration Sub-Committee -18 April 2011

Community Engagement and Citizen Focus Sub-Committee

2. A report was received Community and Police Engagement Group Funding 2011/12; which detailed the proposed arrangements and allocations for the 2011/12 funding. A report was also received on the MPA Partnership Fund 2011/12, which outlined the fund priorities for 2011/12.

3. A report was also received on the Independent Custody Visitor Scheme; which provided an update on the developments and performance of the scheme.

Equality and Diversity Sub-Committee

4. A report was received on the equality and diversity implications of responsible procurement in the MPS. This report examined the MPS commitments to equality and diversity through its Procurement Strategy, given the clear responsibilities in legislation and its own policy to promote equality through all its functions.

5. A report was also received on the MPS service delivery to Gypsy and Traveller communities, which detailed the MPS engagement with these community groups.

Human Resources and Remuneration Sub-Committee

6. A report was received on the MPS approach to talent management and succession planning; which provided an update on talent management and succession planning activity within the MPS.

7. A report was received on MPS Organisational Change; which provided an analysis of the impact of the Budget Scrutiny process and the Service Improvement Programme (SIP) on MPS staff numbers.

8. A report on the MPS Redeployment Arrangements was received, outlining the current redeployment policy and arrangements which have been developed to manage the impact of organisational change on members of staff.

9. Reports were also received on sickness trends, causes of sickness absence and an update of the review of restricted duty officers, Human Resources implications from the Race and Faith Inquiry Recommendations, and the use of Exit Surveys in the MPS.

1. Equalities Impact

Equalities and diversity are key issues for the Authority and considerations of such matters are central to the work of this committee and its sub-committees. As such, matters of equality and diversity are given full consideration in relation to the matters discussed at each meeting.
