3.1 The minutes of the meeting held on 19 October were agreed as a correct record.

4. ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officer) ranks – Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner gifts and hospitality

4.1 Alan Johnson (Oversight and Review) introduced the report. The Sub-committee was advised that as part of the 2006-07 audit plan, Internal Audit Directorate carried out a review of Gifts and Hospitality in the Metropolitan Police Service. A small number of recommendations referred to the arrangements in respect of Association of Chief Police Officer (ACPO) ranks. The report explicitly addresses the arrangements for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

5. ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officer) ranks – Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner’s expenses

Alan Johnson introduced the report. The Sub-committee was advised that as part of an Internal Audit Directorate review, a number of recommendations were considered by the Remuneration Sub-committee in relation to the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. The report explicitly addresses the arrangements for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner’s expenses.

6. Wellbeing initiatives by Occupational Health Services and HR Pay & Benefits Unit

(Agenda item 6)

Bob Crawley (Practice Manger, Occupational Health) introduced the report that set out MPS initiatives over the last 12 months in support of the physical and psychological wellbeing of MPS officers and staff. It outlined benefits that are available to assist the organisation in remaining an employer of choice whilst retaining the skills and experience of officers and staff.

The Chair asked if a costs benefits analysis was available, e.g. usage, numbers per initiative, impact on sickness levels etc. Bob Crawley said it would be possible to provide some of this information but, for example, the impact on sickness levels was more difficult to assess.

7. Items raised by Staff Associations and Trade Unions

(Agenda item 7)

No items were raised. It was agreed to invite the staff associations to one or more Sub-committee meetings in 2010.

8. Exclusion of press and public

A resolution was put to exclude the press and public from the meeting during remaining items on the agenda as they were likely to disclose exempt information as described in Schedule 12(a) of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).

Resolved - That the press and public be excluded from the meeting during discussion of the remaining items on the agenda.
