Summary

The attached papers presents the final outcome of the budget process for 2001/02. A decision is required by the Authority to balance the final budget on the recommendation of the Finance, Planning and Best Value Committee.

A. Recommendation

That the Authority agree the final amendments to balance the budget as set out in paragraph 10 of the attached report by the Treasurer and the Commissioner.

B. Supporting information

1. The Finance, Planning and Best Value Committee considered the report (Appendix 1) at its meeting on 20 February and agreed the recommendation to the Authority set out above. This report includes a correction to the figures reported orally by the Treasurer at the meeting.

2. In addition to making the above recommendation to the full Authority (and agreeing recommendations 1 and 2 of the report), the Committee also agreed to review the budget process in the light of the experience gained this year. It will also be appropriate to review the resource allocation reflected in the budget in the light of the priorities incorporated in the approved policing plan.
