Summary

The Commissioner will provide a verbal update to members on any new events or major incidents that occur or develop after the completion of this report.

A. Recommendation

Authority members are asked to note the contents of this report.

B. Supporting information

1. At the meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) on 8 February 2001, Members requested that the Commissioner should provide a written summary of his update to all future meetings.

2. To assist Members, the Commissioner has reviewed the format and contents of his update to Authority meetings.

3. In future, the Commissioner will present written reports to all Authority meetings to update Members on 'Recruitment and Retention' issues. In addition, the MPS will produce written reports in relation to specific operational issues, eg: Operation Trident, Operation Strongbox, Notting Hill Carnival, etc will be circulated.

4. The Commissioner will limit his oral update to those major incidents and new events that occur in the two weeks preceding Authority meetings.
