MPS performance report - November 2000

Report: 3
Date: 9 January 2001
By: Commissioner

Summary

This report gives an overview of MPS performance, and provides a full listing of Policing Plan and Best Value indicators.

A. Supporting information

1. The MPS performance report for November 2000 is circulated for the information of members. This report was considered by the MPS Performance Review Committee (PRC) on 15 December.

2. The report includes a full listing of the Best Value and Policing Plan indicators, showing information up to and including November wherever possible.

3. Discussion at PRC focused on the performance issues around leadership and the specific factors which determine borough performance. In addition, the meeting examined sickness trends and considered the development of priorities and targets for the Policing Plan 2001/02.

4. In considering the performance of boroughs, the meeting noted a recent decline in JDs, and sought further research on the linkages between JD rates and identifications for fingerprints and DNA.

5. In response to identified performance and staffing issues, the PRC has commissioned a thematic inspection of Criminal Justice Units.

6. PRC resolved to drive down the levels of sickness in the MPS and raise the profile of sickness management at all levels. The issues should be on the agenda for all management team meetings across the organisation. At the same time, an inspection will be undertaken, focussing on the issues of long term sickness and line management action.

7. The emerging objectives and targets for the Policing Plan 2001/02 will be the subject of a separate paper for PSPM in January.
