MPA - full support for Met Counter-terrorist activity

24/04
30 March 2004

Statement by Toby Harris, Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority:

“I welcome the news of this major operation as part of the continuing fight to defend London and its communities from terrorism. The Metropolitan Police Authority offers its full support to the Commissioner and the Metropolitan Police in recognition of the enormous amount of work they are doing to combat terrorism and protect us all.

“In the current climate the Met has a difficult balance to maintain, one of constant vigilance with the readiness to act to protect our security.

“We are confident that the operation was intelligence-led and MPA members are working with the Met to reassure Londoners that today’s action was necessary to protect the capital and all of its communities. We will be working in particular to assure London’s Muslim communities that their concerns are recognised.”
