MPA statement in response to allegations against officers in Enfield

10 June 2009

"The MPA will not tolerate behaviour by Met officers that impacts negatively on community confidence and trust in their police service, and falls below the standards required from serving officers and those rightly expected by the public. If the allegations are substantiated, the Authority will expect the Met to take the strongest possible action against the officers concerned.
"The Authority’s main duty is to monitor and scrutinise the MPS, and ensure that the Met is accountable to Londoners.
"Whilst the MPA is directly responsible for the discipline of senior police officers, in cases investigated by the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) concerning officers who are not ACPO rank, the MPA has a duty of oversight and is briefed directly by the DPS on all details of the case.
"Although this is an on-going investigation and therefore it is not possible to comment further about the case, allegations of this kind are extremely serious and the MPA will maintain close oversight of all aspects of the investigation."
