MPA statement: Babar Ahmad report

13 September 2011

The Metropolitan Police Authority has now received a report on the review of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) response to the Babar Ahmad investigation and judicial findings.

Following discussions with Counsel the MPS have requested that the report is kept strictly confidential when presented at the Metropolitan Police Authority meeting on the 15 September. The Authority has accepted this advice and will not publish the report as it contains information that is subject to legal professional privilege. Consequently, Authority members will be asked to receive the report in closed (private) session.

Whilst accepting Counsel’s advice on the current status of the report, the Authority is aware that an undertaking has been made to publish the findings in public. Therefore, at the Authority meeting on 15 September the Chief Executive will ask members to commission a report from the MPS of their findings of the Babar Ahmad investigation that can be made publicly available.
